My name is Ms Alexandra Hilleary, and I am excited to be your teacher this year!
I was born in Washington, D.C., and thanks to my mother, I hold a dual citizenship with Australia. All through elementary school, I was embraced by The Holy Trinity School of Georgetown. I was the fourth generation Hilleary to attend Holy Trinity and honor the stages of Catholicism.
I graduated with a BA in Communication from The University of the District of Columbia in 1999. I moved to New Jersey in 2000 to help my recently widowed sister raise her two sons. I was very fortunate to connect to my nephew’s school, The Elysian Charter of Hoboken. I stepped in as an assistant fourth grade teacher, and grew to a full time substitute teacher. Realizing my love for education, and teaching children, I enrolled in graduate school at the New Jersey City University, and obtained my masters degree as a Reading Specialist in 2010. With my credentials and full certification, I brought my passion and skills to the Resource Room at The Ethical Community Charter School.
I am proud to see the growth of my students through graduation, always with positive results. With the combination of my life experiences and education, I look forward to sharing my passion, and skills with my new Saint Nicholas second grade class of 2021-2022!

St. Nicholas School follows the curriculum defined by the Archdiocese of Newark Schools' Office. During the past two years, the Archdiocese of Newark's Schools Office completed a curriculum mapping project which carefully evaluated and examined both the math and English language arts curriculum from Kindergarten through High School. These projects ensured that students are taught using a smooth and continuously progressing curriculum that challenges all students. Our curriculum meets or exceeds the NJ Student Learning Standards.

In addition to the standard curriculum, all students participate in one or more service projects each year, serving a diversity of causes. Seniors, impoverished children, supporting our missionaries, cancer charities, animal charities, and many others.
Taken altogether the total experience delivers on our school mission: To embrace, nurture, and educate all God's children preparing them for lives of service and leadership rooted in the Gospel values of faith, hope, and love.

Second Grade is the time when students who are Catholic will receive their First Reconciliation and First Eucharist. This is a very important time in the spiritual life of these children and their families.
More information regarding our 2nd grade sacramental program is available from the teacher.
