Welcome to Grade 5 with Mrs.Cynthia Kenny! I have been a Catholic school teacher for 35+ years. My three sons and I are all graduates of St. Nicholas School. In addition to the standard 5th grade topics, I also teach math to our 6th graders.
The math curriculum used by the school is that of the Archdiocese of Newark's Schools Office. The Archdiocese uses a curriculum that is carefully evaluated and mapped from Kindergarten through high school to ensure all topics are taught in a smooth progression that challenges all students. Our curriculum meets or exceeds the NJ Standards Student Learning Standards.Curriculum Overview: Click here then scroll down for details.
All students are encouraged to continue working online at CLASSWORKS to sharpen Math,Science, and Language Arts skills throughout the summer months!
All students participate in one or more service projects each year, serving a diversity of causes:seniors, impoverished children, supporting our missionaries, cancer charities, animal charities, and many others. In March, our class again coordinated a school-wide Math-a-Thon to benefit sick children at St. Jude's Research Hospital. This project brought in $3600 to help provide services for these children. We successfully surpassed our previous goal of $3500!
Taken altogether the total experience delivers on our school mission: To embrace, nurture, and educate all God's children preparing them for lives of service and leadership rooted in the Gospel values of faith, hope, and love.
