ClassDojo is a communication app for 21st century classrooms. It connects teachers, parents, and students who use it to share photos, videos, and messages through the school day.
I love this application because I can encourage students for any skill - whether it’s working hard, being kind, helping others, napping, following directions, being on task, etc. With this application I can get you (as the parents) engaged by sharing photos and videos of wonderful classroom moments, remind you of upcoming events and important dates, send newsletters, or just have an open realm of communication for any questions, concerns, feedback, etc.
The site uses points to describe what's happening. How do the points work? I like to give students positive points (not take away points which is an option)... I feel by encouraging and praising a child for desired behaviors, other students will notice and try to adopt the rewarded behaviors. For example, if a student is listening and I ask a question that they answer correctly, I will most likely give them a point. This encourages other students to listen and participate as well. If a student is off task and another student is working hard on their morning work, I give points to the student on task in hopes that the other student will make the correction themselves.
This allows for a positive environment in the classroom and not one with negativity or constantly pointing out what someone may be doing wrong. Points are 'restarted' every Monday. Only you are able to see your child’s “profile” in terms of points. General Messages are also posted for the class as a whole.
ALL messages are private, including the 'replies' you may send to me from a 'General Message'. Hope you all enjoy this app as much as I do.
