The curriculum used in our program is based on the Early Childhood Education Curriculum of the Archdiocese of Newark. Our program provides children with a broad array of language, reading, writing, math, social studies, and science skills. At the same time, students are taught that God made us and the whole world. Students are active learners and therefore activities are engaging and student centered.
The Pre-Kindergarten offers a full day program for three and four year olds that provides academics along with hands-on experiences within a Christian atmosphere. Emphasis is placed upon the child's social, emotional, and educational development. The age-appropriate setting uses the Houghton Mifflin Prek-K program which allows each child to develop and flourish at his or her own individual pace and promotes self-worth and self-esteem. Handwriting, pre-reading skills, mathematics, social studies, and science are all infused into the theme-based curriculum. Students enjoy art projects, music, gym class, and technology classes. Kindergarten readiness is a focus of the program.
Taken altogether the total experience delivers on our school mission: To embrace, nurture, and educate all God's children preparing them for lives of service and leadership rooted in the Gospel values of faith, hope, and love.
A Little About Ms. Diaz:
I am a proud alum of St. Nicholas School (Class of 2001), and have been to Catholic school my whole life including getting my Masters from St. Peter's College. I enjoy working with children and helping them achieve their dreams through their education. A good education should empower a child and help him or her make a positive contribution to our world. I love teaching Pre K because it is truly a life-long adventure, it is always exciting and ever changing.
A Little About the Program:
St. Nicholas Pre-K program is designed to provide students with a safe learning environment. The program for these little learners is rooted in Catholic values and beliefs. St. Nicholas is one of the nicest and friendliest schools. It encourages student creativity with community and self exploration. Daily activities are scheduled in whole group and small groups to promote socialization and meet the needs of individualized needs. Students communicate with teachers and peers daily, learn to take turns and collaborate, develop listening skills, and share.
To my Graduates and Parents:
It has been the ultimate blessing to have had each and everyone of my students in the classroom.Together they have formed an amazing bond and I am extremely proud of all their progress this year. I am truly honored to have gotten to know all of your little quirks, what makes you all laugh, try to cheer you up when you are feeling a little sad, and hopefully inspire you to ALWAYS try your best in everything you do. I would like to thank my class parents, for not only choosing this school but trusting me with all of your little ones. It is thanks to us working together that we have had such a successful year in your children's lives. I can't wait to see what the future holds for all of you next year as you continue to grow within our loved St. Nicholas School!
