Posted on May 21, 2017

Students at Saint Nicholas Catholic School - Jersey City won first place for the 2nd year in a row in the “CodeMonkey-Code Rush” coding contest. Sponsored by Microsoft and Makey Makey, “Code Rush” is an award-winning game-based competition held by CodeMonkey Studios, Inc. Hundreds of teams from across the United States and Canada participated in this year's competition.

The students were required to solve a total of 140 programming challenges using CoffeeScript programming language in the shortest possible time. Under the direction of Mrs. Hiranmayee Suresh two teams were formed and participated in the elementary and middle school divisions. The teams: Grades 3-5 and Grades 6-8 met over the past eight weeks to compete with extraordinary spirit and perseverance. This hard work resulted in Saint Nicholas teams winning 1st place in both divisions!

The Code Rush competition helps students build the fundamentals of computer science including multi-step problem solving and analytical thinking. Congratulations to both of our first place teams from St. Nicholas School – Jersey City!
