What should parents and guardians know about St. Nicholas School?

St. Nicholas School was established in 1886 by the Sisters of Christian Charity. The school has been accredited by the prestigious Middle States Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools since 1993; most recently re-accredited in 2016. It is staffed by a lay faculty and Sisters of Christian Charity.

Our school's mission seeks to instill a sense of service and leadership in our students through a school environment steeped in the Catholic traditions found in the Gospels and the life of Jesus Christ.

The curriculum used is defined by the Archdiocese of Newark's Schools Office and supports the development of students who aspire to academic excellence and service to others. Standardized Test Scores for 2016 were up to 30 points above the National Median test scores. The graduating class of 2016 was awarded almost $400,000 in scholarship toward our excellent local Catholic high schools. In addition, 40% of the students who applied were accepted to McNair Academic and High Tech high schools. For these reasons, the school enjoys an excellent reputation in the local area.

The life of the school is enriched by the diversity of the student population who come from a variety of backgrounds. Our present student population is approximately 20% Hispanic, 30% Asian, 30% Caucasian, 10% Multi Racial, and 10% other.
