Teaching tomorrow’s leaders through tradition, community and academic excellence.

Welcome to Grade 5 with Mrs.Cynthia Kenny!  I have been a Catholic school teacher for 35+ years. My 3 sons and I are all graduates of St. Nicholas School.   In addition to the standard 5th grade topics, I also teach math to our 6th graders.

The math curriculum used by the school is that of the Archdiocese of Newark's Schools Office. In 2014, the Archdiocese completed a curriculum mapping project which carefully evaluated and examined the math curriculum from Kindergarten through high school. This project ensured that students are taught using a smooth and continuously progressing math curriculum that challenges all students. Our math curriculum meets or exceeds the Common Core Curriculum Standards adopted across the United States.

All students participate in one or more service projects each year, serving a diversity of causes. Seniors, impoverished children, supporting our missionaries, cancer charities, animal charities, and many others. In March,  our class will once again coordinate a school-wide Math-a-Thon to benefit sick children at St. Jude's Research Hospital. This project last year produced $2,142 to help provide services for these children.  We hope to surpass that goal!

The 6th graders will soon be preparing for the Marist Math Olympics.  Our school previously was awarded third and then second place. Good luck to this year's class!

Taken altogether the total experience delivers on our school mission: To embrace, nurture, and educate all God's children preparing them for lives of service and leadership rooted in the Gospel values of faith, hope, and love.
